Bases for spin systems and qudits from angular momentum theory
Spin bases of relevance for quantum systems with cyclic symmetry as well as for quantum information and quantum computation are constructed from the theory of angular momentum. This approach is connected to the use of generalized Pauli matrices (in dimension d) arising from a polar decomposition of the group SU2. Numerous examples are given for d = 2, 3 and 4.
متن کاملPerturbation Theory for Spin Ladders Using Angular - Momentum Coupled Bases
We compute bulk properties of Heisenberg spin-1/2 ladders using Rayleigh-Schrödinger perturbation theory in the rung and plaquette bases. We formulate a method to extract high-order perturbative coefficients in the bulk limit from solutions for relatively small finite clusters. For example, a perturbative calculation for an isotropic 2 × 12 ladder yields an eleventh-order estimate of the ground...
متن کاملMean-Field Theory for Spin Ladders Using Angular-Momentum Coupled Bases
We study properties of two-leg Heisenberg spin ladders in a mean-field approximation using a variety of angular-momentum coupled bases. The meanfield theory proposed by Gopalan, Rice, and Sigrist, which uses a rung basis, assumes that the mean-field ground state consists of a condensate of spin-singlets along the rungs of the ladder. We generalize this approach to larger angular-momentum couple...
متن کاملAngular Momentum and Mutually Unbiased Bases
The Lie algebra of the group SU2 is constructed from two deformed oscillator algebras for which the deformation parameter is a root of unity. This leads to an unusual quantization scheme, the {J2, Ur} scheme, an alternative to the familiar {J2, Jz} quantization scheme corresponding to common eigenvectors of the Casimir operator J and the Cartan operator Jz. A connection is established between t...
متن کاملSpin and orbital angular momentum exchange in binary star systems
We present a comprehensive model for studying the angular momentum (AM) evolution in binary star systems, taking into account: (i) evolutionary effects of both component stars on the Pre-Main Sequence (PMS), on the Main Sequence (MS) and during the (initial) ascent onto the giant branch; (ii) spin-orbital AM exchange through ‘tidal’ interactions; and (iii) AM loss from one or both component sta...
